A series of designs created while the client enjoyed explosive success and hosted several music festivals.
THE PROJECT
Disco Donnie Presents came to me with a simple ask: give each festival an animal mascot that carried the energy they wanted the crowd to feel. It started in Tampa with Sunset Music Festival, where a nautically tattooed seagull grew out of a sketch I doodled during the exploratory call. Its success in the merch booth turned one project into a long partnership. In El Paso, an electric coyote howled back at the Texas night for Sun City Music Festival’s Labor Day crowd. Something Wicked called for Halloween without the clichés, so I landed on a figure caught somewhere between a marble bust and a living creature. When Sunset returned, DDP wanted another bird and a nod to Tampa’s pirate history. The answer was a swashbuckling parrot with an SMF flag and an empty rum bottle, a wink to the seagull for anyone who’d been there the year before. Concept art for each piece is included below.
